SHERIFF THOMAS ROMERO

TACTICAL TRACKING TEAM

In 2012, under the direction of Sheriff Louis Ackal, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office formed a Tactical Tracking Team. The team is comprised of eight full time deputies from various divisions and a medic. The purpose of the formation of the team was to assist in the arrest of suspects who have fled on foot. These suspects are fugitives, escaped inmates or persons wanted for various crimes. The team also conducts search and rescue operations for missing persons lost in rural areas. The mission is to recover them, render medical aid, and return them safely to their families.

The Tactical Tracking Team has received training from the United States Border Patrol, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the Regional Counter drug Training Academy. Sheriff Ackal often sends this team of volunteers to other parishes to assist with their needs.
